Cotton Company Brand Story

Cottco is frequently cited as the model privatisation, which satisfied the needs and aspirations of government, employees and shareholders.
Significant contributions to the fiscus in corporate taxation, healthy returns to investors and providing the means of livelihood to hundreds of thousands of small-scale farmers justified this claim. See below our brand story.

1969

Succeeded The Cotton Marketing Board (CMB)

COTTCO is the successor to the Cotton Marketing Board (CMB), a Government Parastatal that was formed in 1969 to regulate the cotton sector

1994

CMB Was Commercialised

CMB was commercialised under government economic reforms.

1997

Cottco Was Privatised And Listed On The Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE)

Cottco, the successor of CMB was privatised and subsequently listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) in December of that same year, with the government retaining 25% shareholding. The government’s shareholding was later sold to Cottco through an employee share scheme.

2008

Cottco delisted from the ZSE

AICO Africa Limited formed and Cottco delisted from the Zimbabwe Stock.

2013

AICO Group Changed The Name To Cottco Holdings

AICO group unbundled and name changed to Cottco Holdings which now owns 100% of The Cotton Company of Zimbabwe Limited.

2016

The Government acquired 37.1% stake in COTTCO Holdings

Government acquires 37.1% stake in COTTCO Holdings Limited making it the single largest shareholder.
